Infertility Tests

To learn more about what is preventing you from getting pregnant, you may want to consult your doctor, and he or she may suggest some of the following tests:

Basal Body Temperature

The doctor will get your temperature daily in order to determine fertility period and egg production frequency. This test will check if your menstrual cycle is long enough to sustain and prepare your body for pregnancy.

Postcoital Test

This infertility test examines the cervical mucus, right after sexual intercourse to determine the receptivity of the mucus to the sperm.

It will also show results if there are any sperm present and the actual sperm count produced.

Hysterosalpingography

Performed one week after menstruation, this infertility test uses a special x-ray to determine if the uterus and fallopian tubes are open. A special dye is injected to check the specific body part and this test is especially important if you have a history of STD (sexually transmitted disease) or pelvic infection.

Laparoscopy

A surgical test that inspects the female reproductive organs, including abdomen, pelvis, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, small bowel, liver, gall bladder and appendix through a small incision in the navel or umbilical area. This infertility test helps to determine if a woman has endometriosis or pelvic adhesions.

Semen Analysis

This test will examine if the cause of infertility is low sperm count, or infection that may be causing sperm malfunction.

1. Medical Advice

When seeking professional help, most doctors can give medical advice with regards to frequency of intercourse, sexual position and timing.

2. Proper Medication

Most fertility problems can be treated with proper medications. Medications can help improve egg production, or to treat any infection. Drug therapy can also help improve sperm count.

3. Surgical Procedures

You can consult your doctor for a series of non-invasive procedures to remove blockages or clear tumors or tissues.

4. Assisted Reproduction

With the use of advanced technology and modern techniques, there a several options that can help a woman get pregnant. Common techniques to aid fertilization include In Vitro Fertilization, Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer, Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Insertion and micromanipulation of eggs and embryos.
